Paris, Musier fils, 1774. 3 volumes, large 8vo, grained calfskin, triple gilt fillet, plain decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). 2 folios, IV pages, XXIV pages, 563 pages – 2 folios, 563 pages – 2 folios, 597 pages, 2 folios of approval. 3 frontispieces above the text.  A fine edition, elegantly composed, of a pastoral novel first published in 1665. This is the second illustrated edition; the first appeared in 1720.  It contains three frontispieces by Cochin, Moreau and Eisen, engraved by Gaucher, Ponce and Née; three fleurons on the title page by Née; and 20 headpieces by Eisen, engraved by Helman, De Longueil, Masquelier and Massard.  A fine, fresh copy printed on Holland paper. From the libraries of Jean-Baptiste Gard, with a gilt superlibris on the spine, and Henri Beraldi (1935, VI, no. 112), with an ex-libris. A few scattered foxing spots; slight wear to the spines and caps. Cohen, 643.
