Paris, Forget, 1797. 2 in-12 volumes, blue half-basane, plain spines with gilt fillets and fleurons, marbled edges (Bound c. 1820). First edition of the translation, [by Moylin-Fleury]. 2 frontispieces and 16 pages of engraved music. Mylne-Martin 9757. 2) *L’Italien, or the Confessional of the Black Penitents*. Translated by André Morellet. Paris, Maradan, 1798. 4 volumes in 2 in-16 volumes, brown half-goatskin, smooth, decorated spines, marbled edges (Early 19th-century binding). First in-16 edition, very rare, published in the same year and at the same address as the original. 4 unsigned illustrations by Challiou. Oberle no. 15 – Mylne – Martin 9756 – Killen 227. 3) *La Forêt* or *The Abbey of Saint-Clair*. Paris, Maradan, 1819. 2 volumes in-12, contemporary half-basane. First edition of this novel falsely attributed to Anne Radcliffe by Étienne-Léon de Lamothe-Langon, who presents himself as the work’s translator. 3 superb frontispieces in the ‘noire’ style.
