Description
Regency-period table in so-called Boulle marquetry of tortoiseshell and brass; the body is straight, arched at the top, with the shoulders emphasised by roosters crowing in high relief, and the legs are scroll-shaped, the figure of Chronos in high relief at the top, and an antique-style cupid playing with a dog in the centre of the door. Dial with thirteen white-enamelled cartouches, featuring Arabic and Roman numerals, surmounting the clockmaker’s name ‘G I / Champion / A Paris’, a signature also found in the English style on the square plate fitted with a disc-shaped counting wheel. H: 108 – W: 54 – D: 20 cm Signs of wear, restorations, damage, missing parts; one side glass is damaged; the suspension has been modified; no keys or balance wheel
