Description
A Louis XV-period chest of drawers, hallmarked ‘L BOUDIN’ and bearing the Jurande hallmark The front and sides feature a dynamic design, with marquetry decoration in satin, rosewood, amaranth, plane wood and stained wood, comprising cubes within fillet frames forming scalloped panels. It opens to reveal two drawers with no visible crossbars and rests on curved legs. Gilded bronze fittings, finials accentuating the tapered legs, fixed handles, lock plates and glides. Beige breccia marble top. H: 87 – W: 83 – D: 48 cm Signs of wear, damage, restoration; marble restored and patched Léonard BOUDIN, admitted as a master in 1761 Marquetry as a signature. It appears that the motifs of cubes set within dynamic medallions were one of Léonard Boudin’s favourite designs, allowing him to showcase his virtuosity, as they are found on several chests of drawers of various sizes as well as on a cabinet designed to resemble a secretary.
