Antique Louis XVI bergère in gilded beech, moulded and carved with acanthus leaves, garlands of heart-shaped motifs, the backrest in a cabriolet-style basket-handle shape, the armrests with cuffs resting on detached, tapered legs with twisted fluting, the feet of the same design. Silk upholstery in a very worn condition. Bears a ‘J B Fromageau’ mark beneath the rear apron H: 97 – W: 66 – D: 54 cm Damage, losses, reinforcements and restoration A model comparable to the works of Jean Baptiste Demay, notably four armchairs sold at Sotheby’s, London, on 8 December 1995, lot 182, and at Artcurial, Paris, on 15 December 2022, lot 12.
