Description
Tributes to Napoleon and the soldiers of the Grande Armée, France, c. 1830–1840. Three circular boxes made of black-varnished wood, decorated on the sides with engravings enhanced with colour. -The death of Napoleon on St Helena in 1821 with his faithful companions, and the inscription ‘It was a sad day / the weather was gloomy / nature was in mourning’. D. 9 cm -Portrait of Charles-Nicolas Fabvier (1788–1855), a French colonel in Napoleon’s armies, who supported Greek independence between 1822 and 1830. Diameter 9.3 cm -Three portraits of anti-Napoleonic figures, including Andreas Hofer, leader of the Tyrolean insurgents, and Ferdinand von Schill, a major in the Prussian army; the reverse features a marbled colour effect. Diameter 8.6 cm (signs of wear, slight losses)
