Description
Two boxes or snuff boxes, Europe, 18th and 19th centuries; - The first, a rectangular horn box with an oval miniature on the lid depicting soldiers marching through the snow, evoking the retreat from Russia of Napoleon’s Grande Armée. France, c. 1830–1840 Width 8.8 cm (signs of wear, small losses) -The second, made of copper and brass, is oblong in shape, in the style of Johann Heinrich Giese, featuring on the lid a battlefield dominated by generals, and accompanied by a lengthy inscription in German: ‘The Prussian victory at Torgau’. The reverse features a lengthy description flanked by military trophies. Germany, c. 1760 Length 14 cm
