Description
A set comprising a clock and a pair of candelabra from the 19th century
Forming a mantelpiece set, in chiselled and gilded bronze in the Neo-Gothic and Renaissance style of Victor Paillard. The architecturally shaped clock is topped by a broken pediment and crowned with a fountain beside which stands a courtly couple; the bronze dial features enamelled Roman numerals on a white background surmounting an eagle, the side panels featuring female musicians; the pair of seven-light candelabra, one of which has a central decoration of vine tendrils and a trio of musicians at the base; the feet in the shape of mermaids. Base plate signed Douillon and Christofle, Paris
