AUBUSSON 18th century, c. 1730–40 Greenery in a landscaped park with lush scenery, featuring a dog and birds Wool and silk tapestry Part of a series of landscapes featuring animals and birds, based on a cartoon attributed to the circle of Jean Joseph Dumons and probably Juillard, drawing on a repertoire of animal motifs inspired by Jean Baptiste Oudry (1686–1755), particularly on the right-hand side of the tapestry. Also of note is the architecture of a columned temple with a fountain, and the stylised statue of Venus in the centre. The border creates the effect of a picture frame, featuring moulded gilded wood and finely drawn scrollwork 300 x 600 cm Oxidation and wear; damage, particularly in the upper section; restoration work; re-weaving. Tapestry lined and edged with braid.
