Description
DUNHILL Paris – Atelier ROLLANG Fils & Cie, circa 1965–1975: 750 mil gold necklace with twisted chain links, ratchet clasp with safety catch. Signed ‘Dunhill Paris’ and numbered. Master’s hallmark: ROLLANG Fils & Cie. (Length: 41 cm; Width: 7.7 mm). 68.3 g.
[The Rollang Fils & Cie workshop is a renowned workshop specialising in gold and silver work. It was the principal manufacturer for Hermès and its famous Chaîne d’Ancre, as well as for Boucheron and Mauboussin.
As for Dunhill, the British brand known for its smokers’ accessories, it underwent a strategic shift in the 1960s and 1970s in an attempt to become a global lifestyle brand. The boutique on Rue de la Paix in Paris thus became an independent design studio, commissioning production directly in France rather than in England, drawing on the finest subcontractors from the Place Vendôme, including Rollang Fils & Cie. These were produced in small batches, which explains their rarity on the second-hand market. The bracelet presented here for sale clearly bears the ‘Dunhill Paris’ signature, making it a testament to an era when Dunhill sought to compete directly with the French jewellers of the Place Vendôme.]
