*19th-century piece A large, irregularly shaped seal pendant in 750‰ yellow gold, featuring filigree decoration and acanthus leaves holding a tilting carnelian stone engraved in intaglio with a heraldic shield surmounted by an elephant’s head and a snake, and surmounting a scroll bearing the Latin motto ‘EX MALO BONUM’, meaning ‘Good can come from evil’. Dimensions: 3.8 x 3.7 cm. Gross weight: 19.1 g. (Suspension ring missing; signs of wear; minor chips). *Subject to inspection.
