Description
"Antique hinged pectoral pendant in 18K yellow gold (750/oo) featuring twisted motifs, filigree, grènetis and rows of fishbone chain, the upper section opens to reveal a round souvenir box/reliquary under glass, marked ‘ROMA’ and adorned with a beetle; it is set with lapis lazuli cabochons, the central one re-pierced with a Chi-Rho symbol, as well as three obus-cut stones; it features three pendants (one broken). Total height: approximately 177 mm. The hinged upper section bears traces of a hallmark with the attributes of the Papal States (probably the Rome Assay Office for 18K gold from 1815 to 1870); likely Italian work from the mid-19th century. We include the missing pendant (to be re-soldered) as well as two drop-shaped pendants with motifs and a double-sided pendant (beetle and flower) with a motif. Minimal dents and weaknesses; traces of a brooch pin on the reverse. Reassembled, modified, with very minor tin soldering. Gross weight: 93.3 g.
