Description
MARCHAK Paris, 1950s–1960s A pair of ‘Fleurs’ earrings in 950‰ platinum and 750‰ yellow gold comprising two floral motifs, the petals set with oval and round faceted sapphires and rubies, edged with brilliant-cut diamonds; the pistils consist of radiating stems also set with diamonds. Clips for unpierced ears, the clips in 750‰ white gold. Signed ‘Marchak PARIS’ and numbered ‘23142 A’. French craftsmanship; the workshop’s diamond-shaped hallmark is partially visible. Dimensions: 2.9 x 3.6 cm. Gross weight: 43.2 g. (Slight oxidation, one ruby missing, minor loss of material, cracks and scratches). Founded in Kiev in 1878, the House of Marchak – specialising in jewellery and goldsmithing – established itself in Paris in the 1920s, then in New York in the 1950s. Discreet in nature, the House of Marchak has successfully reinvented and revitalised itself whilst retaining its distinct identity, from the era of Tsarist Russia through the Art Deco period, the 1950s and 1960s, and more recently, since the 2000s. Our bracelet, which can be transformed into two cuff clips, and our pair of earrings are part of the Maison’s revival in the 1950s and 1960s. This was a flourishing period for the House, which brought together leading designers and illustrators who breathed new life into the brand: Jacques VERGER, Alexandre DIRINGER and Bertrand DEGOMMIER. The Marchak House is particularly distinguished by its treatment of nature-related themes (plants, flowers, animals), combining volumes and colours with a touch of exuberance.
