◊ Amadou Camara GUEYE (Senegal, 1968)
WAAHOU
Acrylic on canvas, signed and dated 2023 in the bottom right-hand corner.
110 x 140 cm.
Note:
Amadou Camara GUEYE was born in 1968 in Senegal.
He graduated top of his class from the Dakar School of Fine Arts in 1997. He lives and works in a working-class neighbourhood of the city, translating into his paintings the daily hardship, ugliness and violence of urban life, and the ills of modern society.
He describes himself as a street storyteller and poet and states that, through his narrative, figurative and naïve works, he aims to ‘shed light on all that is dark in life’.
His participation in the Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art in 2000 paved the way for his international career.
