Ernest MEISSONIER (1815–1891) ‘Full-length portrait of a Grenadier of the Imperial Guard’ Oil on panel, monogrammed ‘EM’ in the lower left-hand corner 16 x 10 cm. Reverse bearing a wax seal from the 1893 Meissonier sale and the number ‘681’ Red velvet mount with a plaque reading ‘E.MEISSONIER’. Gilded frame. History: Our grenadier is probably a study for the painting ‘1807’, produced in 1875 and now held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York).
