Note:
William TAGNE NJEPE, known as TWILLIAM, was born in 1983 in Douala, Cameroon.
Having left school at a very young age to support his family, he was confronted with a violent and traumatic working world.
In 2002, he joined the studio of the artist Nkanganyam Viking in Douala, where he discovered in the medium of painting a way to exorcise his ‘stolen childhood’. From then on, he has relentlessly used his art to expose the reality of children who are sacrificed, deprived of their right to education and confronted with violence and crime.
His iconic series *Stolen Childhood*, exhibited in 2021 at Sakhile&Me in Frankfurt, condemns these social realities by blending scenes of everyday life with colourful worlds inspired by a child’s imagination.
Regarded as a rising star on the contemporary African art scene, his work is featured in prestigious collections, such as the Gandur Foundation for Art in Geneva and the Hood Museum of Art in Hanover
