Dominique-François Poitreau, son of the academic painter Étienne Poitreau, was apprenticed to Pierre Ferrat in 1741 and obtained his master's degree in 1757. He worked at the Cour Neuve du Palais until 1781. His gold boxes are part of the collections of the Louvre and the Victoria & Albert Museum. His hallmark was one of the most copied and used on completely unsuitable boxes, as identified by Charles Truman (The Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, Renaissance jewels, gold boxes, etc., London, 1984, p. 250). - Expert : SC Emeric et Stephen PORTIER
