A silver flat-bottomed teapot, the body with wide ribs, the chimera-head spout, the lid and handle carved in blackened wood. Master silversmith: Joannes or Jan Hermans (R. Stuyck, no. 1291). Bruges town hallmark. Letter date S for 1734-1735. (Wear, scratches, small shocks, traces of restoration). Height: 18.5 cm - Gross weight: 631 g The master silversmith Joannes Hermans, also known as Jan Hermans, is listed by Stuyck under no. 1291. This piece can be compared with a teapot from Bruges in the permanent collections of the Domaine du Château de Seneffe, by Johannes Vincke and dated circa 1730 (inv. no. SDA 395). It can also be compared to a silver teapot by Joannes Van den Kerkhove (Bruges, 1731-1732), at Sotheby's Paris, 18 November 2014, lot 96, sold for 27,500. - Expert : SC Emeric et Stephen PORTIER
