Description
Flexible ‘belt’-style ring in yellow gold (750 parts per thousand). The woven mesh band is slightly misshapen. Width: 10 mm. TDD: 59. Weight: 8.03 g Firstly, ‘belt’-shaped jewellery first appeared towards the end of the 19th century. Bracelets were embellished with motifs set with fine half-pearls. Then, in the 1940s and 1950s, the major jewellery houses such as Cartier and Boucheron began to adorn the ends, buckles and fastenings with diamonds, sapphires, rubies or emeralds. The ‘ribbon’ sections featured either ‘honeycomb’ patterns or woven links. Hermès produced the ‘belt’ design in solid silver.
