Description
CHINA. A bronze tripod vase, known as a jue, in the archaic style. The cartouche "Qianlong sannian zhongdong jidan zhi" indicates that it was made on the 1st day of the eleventh month of the third year of the reign of Quianlong (1738). Height 15.5cm.
Several jues of this type have been recorded, but the cast is still imperfect. Referenced by Elwyn M. Smolen, "Chinese Bronzes of the Ming Dynasty", Arts of Asia, January 1980, p. 84, fig. 31.
