Lot no. 151
Description
Louis MAJORELLE (1859-1926), Nancy - Lorraine. Small Art Nouveau plant-holder table decorated with ferns. A similar model was in the living room of the Villa Majorelle. Created around 1902. 34.5 x 34.5 x h. 40 cm high. Damage and missing pieces (restoration would restore this rare avant-garde table to its former glory).
This table, of which the Musée de l'Ecole de Nancy has a similar example (the one from the Villa Jika), was shown at several exhibitions in the early 20th century: in 1904 at the Galeries Poirel in Nancy, in 1905 at the Salon du mobilier in Paris, in 1909 at the Exposition Internationale de l'Est de la France in Nancy, and so on.
It has been the subject of several publications: Alastair DUNCAN, Louis Majorelle: master of art nouveau design, New York, 1991, p. 202; Roselyne BOUVIER, Louis Majorelle: une aventure moderne, Paris, 1991, p. 87; Majorelle: un art de vivre moderne, exhibition catalogue, Musée de l'Ecole de Nancy, Nancy, 2 May - 30 August 2009, p. 123.
