Wooden frame with gilded stucco, featuring a motif of bindweed and shells in the corners (acquired).
For further information on Charles Rémond, a pupil of J. B. Regnault and J. V. Bertin, who was awarded the First Prix de Rome for Historical Landscape in 1821 for his *The Abduction of Proserpine*, and who worked in the Roman and Neapolitan countryside, then in Sicily, please refer to Lydia Harambourg’s work, *Dictionnaire des peintres Paysagistes Français au XIXe siècle*, pp. 296 & 297 (Ides et Calendes 1985).
His principal landscapes are held in France in eighteen of the major provincial museums (Amiens, Angers, Dijon, Montpellier, Nantes, Reims, Rouen, Versailles, etc.).
