Voluntary lot
Description
A 950‰ platinum lace-style ring set with an unheated oval sapphire (probably from Sri Lanka) in a closed setting, flanked by four old-cut diamonds in a tube setting on a triple band of old-cut diamonds, hand-re-pierced latticework decoration and a duchess border entirely set with old-cut diamonds, including two larger stones in tube settings at either end. Lace-pattern setting.
French craftsmanship, circa 1910. Marked scratches on the sapphire (table and culet); the stone has been re-set and recut by a former electronics technician. Numerous photographs illustrate the fine original craftsmanship and the ensuing ‘massacre of the innocents’ caused by an unsteady hand; requires serious attention.
Gross weight: 5.2 g.
