TIBET, early 20th century
Portable reliquary in vermeil, silver fineness exceeding 800 thousandths, rectangular in shape with a hinged lid; the lid depicts the Green Tara as a polyform turquoise cabochon, with the cardinal points surmounted by ruby cabochons set within a sunburst border of emeralds and pink gemstones. The whole set rests on twisted arabesques, the entire piece encircled by a row of crenellations in twisted bezel-set work. The lid features the same motif in reverse, crafted from coral and set within a border of green and pink stones.
