Description
A set of seven 18th-century mechanical movements, some incomplete, of English manufacture, of various types, featuring verge escapements, meeting wheels, chains and fusées:
- two movements, one signed Norton, with a hinged dust cover (one pin missing), cock-pieces with screw-mounted lugs and openwork foliage decoration on friezes;
- two movements, one signed and without a cock or balance wheel, featuring beautifully crafted pillars, domed dials enamelled in white, with a patina and signs of wear:
- three English movements, late 18th – early 19th century, anonymous; one with a domed white-enamelled dial, a central circular decoration depicting a jetty and boats, a clasp-mounted cock richly adorned with foliage motifs; the other two are more classical in style, all featuring Roman numerals, railway-track hour markers, and a heeled cock with openwork foliage motifs in rosette patterns, supported by further rich applied decorations on the plate.
