LOUIS XVI-STYLE COFFEE TABLE, NAPOLEON III PERIOD
France, second half of the 19th century,
In black lacquered wood, the scalloped top with stepped edges and bevelled corners, decorated with a painted design in gold highlights depicting a neoclassical trophy with crossed arrows, a quiver, a torch and ears of wheat, set within a cartouche featuring rocaille scrolls and leaf-adorned shells; the rim is framed by an openwork gilt-bronze gallery with a piastre motif.
The apron opens to a drawer at the front, highlighted by gilded mouldings and centred by a large gilded bronze lock-plate, chased with a ribbon bow and a garland of roses.
Resting on eight tapered, fluted legs, grouped in sets of four at the corners, adorned with gilt-bronze capitals featuring water leaves and gilt-bronze rudentate mouldings that are partially gilded; the lower band joined by a curved X-shaped brace, centred on a supporting shelf and enhanced by mouldings and a gilded bronze rosette.

Signs of wear, crazing and minor lifting of the varnish, some loss of gilding on the bronze parts, lifting of the brass, losses and stains.
