Description
A flared vase in polychrome porcelain, featuring a historical motif known as ‘the trading posts’ (or Hongs). This motif depicts the former foreign trading posts in Canton (Guangzhou). It shows rows of buildings and the flags of various Western nations fluttering in the wind (notably the American, Swedish and British flags), with small boats on the water in the foreground. Drawing on the stylistic conventions of the prestigious export porcelain produced by the East India Company in the late 18th century, this is likely a fine 20th-century piece paying homage to that era of maritime trade. The piece is displayed on a circular, moulded wooden plinth.
Dimensions: H. 25 cm, D. at neck 26.5 cm (excluding plinth)
Condition: Appears to be in good overall condition in the photograph. Normal signs of wear on the wooden plinth.
