Description
Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory. A bisque porcelain bust on a pedestal depicting Louis XVIII, his head turned slightly to the left, wearing a sash, the Cross of the Holy Spirit, the Cross of the Order of Saint Louis and the Cross of the Legion of Honour. Based on a model by the sculptor Achille-Joseph-Étienne Valois (1785–1862). H: 34 cm A sunken mark on the back reading ‘4 août (18)’ and traces of initials slightly above it. The original marble bust, entitled ‘Louis XVIII in military dress’, is held at the Louvre Museum.
