TAHAN, Paris. A rare mahogany writing desk featuring Boulle marquetry in brass and red tortoiseshell on both sides, with compartments and drawers. The lid is monogrammed ‘PB’. With its original purple velvet writing pad (torn) and key (lock in working order). The manufacturer’s brass plate is situated near the lock (at 30 Rue de la Paix, Paris). Napoleon III period. Max. height: 12.5 cm; width: 33.5 cm. Very good condition; a few slight losses of tortoiseshell (re-painted) or brass in places, and some brass strips slightly bent. Four replacement screws, as well as a drawer pull (front slightly cracked).
