Description
Émile GALLÉ (1846–1904), Nancy – Lorraine. A faience salt shaker, commissioned by Frédéric de CARCY (1814–1889), a retired General Staff officer and member of the Académie de Stanislas, for his wife Henriette, née SWELLENGREBEL, (1824–1905) to mark their 27th wedding anniversary. The decoration features both dedications; the moving list of the couple’s various postings, whilst Carcy was on the General Staff of the 8th and then the 10th Division (Tuileries, Montpellier, Strasbourg, etc.); followed by the various places where the couple lived: Nancy–Paris (1858–1868, where the couple had a townhouse built on Cours Léopold, which would later become the famous GEC), Scotland, Austria-Hungary, etc. The stem of the teapot is decorated with illustrations of the plans for the villa in Mustapha, Algiers, where the couple lived in 1876. Signed ‘E. Gallé’. Circa 1877. Height: 8 cm. Some damage. For a biography of Frédéric de Carcy, see: https://www.academie-stanislas.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/andre-de-carcy-charles-frederic.pdf
