Description
Manufactured in NIDERVILLER, Lorraine. A rare group of glazed earthenware figures depicting the abduction of Helen, Queen of Sparta, by the Trojan prince Paris. Note, in the boat, the striking anatomical resemblance between the armour and the torso of the Belvedere Venus, held in the Vatican Museums. Intaglio marks in the clay. Early 20th century. Height: 41.5 cm. A few minor chips and damage (notably two fingers on Helen’s right hand and the scabbard of Paris’s sword).
