Description
Edmond ALET (1867–1917), a cabinetmaker and watercolourist based in Toulouse. Art Nouveau fireplace trumeau in carved walnut, the upper section decorated with stylised floral motifs in intarsia and a watercolour depicting a landscape, signed and dated December 1911. 164 x 91.5 cm. After studying at the Toulouse School of Fine Arts (notably decorative arts under J. Rivière), Alet went on to specialise in drawing, whilst continuing to practise cabinetmaking. He was involved in the running of *La Ruche*, a furniture shop founded with his brother Maurice, and in the creation of the *Salon des Arts Méridionaux*.
