Description
MAJORELLE FRERES and DAUM, Nancy – Lorraine. A rare sideboard with four doors and three drawers, decorated with carved fucus seaweed motifs, enhanced by large glass paste cabochons depicting seashells. Constructed from oak and mahogany (front), veneered with mahogany and burl. Bronze handles decorated with seaweed motifs. Circa 1910. 226 x 60 x height 156.5 cm. The combination of intact glass paste cabochons with the cabinet-making skills of the Majorelle workshop is quite exceptional. We are not aware of any other examples. Nor do the works by Alastair Duncan and Roselyne Bouvier list any further examples.
