Description
Sacred art, Lorraine. A very large sanctuary lamp in bronze and brass, with chains held in place by three cherubs, featuring relief decoration of medallions depicting the Virgin Mary, the Paschal Lamb and the instruments of the Passion (St Veronica’s veil, spear, sponge, hammer, pincers, etc.), signed COTTON in Nancy and dated 1844. Diameter of the bowl: approx. 50 cm. Height of the bowl alone: approx. 54 cm. Total height: approx. 190 cm. The considerable size of this lamp suggests it was intended for a large building and implies it may have been intended for use in Nancy Cathedral or the Church of Saint-Sébastien in Nancy.
