Sacred art. Mihai Pop SIGHETEANU (born 1948), Romania. Mounted under glass, depicting the epic of Alexander the Great. Early 1980s. Visible dimensions: 42 x 54.5 cm. A retrospective exhibition of Sigheteanu’s works was organised in 2020 in Romania by the “Petre Dulfu” County Library in Baia Mare. Sigheteanu’s career has been multifaceted. He learnt the art of icon painting from Gheorghe Teodorescu Romanati (1891–1980) and Iosif Keber (1897–1989), before being granted the title of icon painter by the Metropolitan of Cluj. He produced numerous icons on glass and undertook short study visits to Germany (FRG) between 1983 and 1985, before emigrating there in 1986.
