Description
Militaria. Tunic belonging to General of the Army Louis COLSON (1875–1951), 1931 model, in black woollen cloth, with sleeve and collar facings featuring an oak leaf motif; each sleeve adorned with five stars. Manufactured by Richard et Compagnie, Avenue de la Motte-Picquet, Paris. Numerous ribbons for decorations and service badges. Minor wear and tear and moth holes. The ceremonial epaulettes and sash are included.
General Colson, born in Toul (Lorraine), attended the École Polytechnique and Saint-Cyr as part of his engineering training, followed by the École Supérieure de Guerre. A Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, he held very high-ranking posts within the Army. He was the last Secretary of State for War of the Third Republic, then Minister of War under the Vichy regime (for less than a month) until his retirement in 1940. Tried after the Liberation, his case was dismissed on the grounds of his involvement in the Resistance.
