Estimate €750 - €850
Description
A pair of wax figurines depicting Marshal Foch and Georges Clémenceau, characterised by exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship, almost certainly produced in the aftermath of the First World War. Foch is depicted in full dress uniform, wearing the sash of the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour (awarded in October 1915), the Military Medal (awarded on 21 December 1916) and the Croix de Guerre. The uniform is crafted from the same fabrics and leather as the life-size version, and the embroidery is in cannetille and bullion (epaulettes). The hands and faces are made of very finely modelled wax. The marshal’s baton appears to be missing. Height: 49 cm. Green marble plinth. Clémenceau is depicted in a waistcoat and street clothes, with a coat featuring a wide shawl collar trimmed with fur. Here too, the finesse and attention to detail are remarkable. Height: 46 cm. Red marble plinth. Insect holes and minor imperfections.
