DUCHY OF LORRAINE. A rare, large wall-mounted holy water font, entirely openwork, made of St Lucia wood – incorrectly referred to as Bagard wood – decorated with acanthus leaves; the central medallion is adorned with a pelican, a symbol of charity, facing the Cross. The covered basin is decorated with foliage and a bird. First half of the 18th century. Height: 26 cm. Provenance: Geneviève Aubry collection, Rosières-aux-Salines.
