Description
FRANCE. A collection of memorabilia belonging to Major Etienne Pinot, the officer in command of the 28th Tank Regiment, which distinguished itself during the campaigns in Belgium and France in 1940. It comprises:
- his 1935/37-model helmet for motorised troops; steel shell painted khaki; interior and headband in tan leather; 1919-model battle tank insignia. Name inscribed on the back of the neck strap. Length 28 cm. (signs of wear; oxidation; interior slightly unstitched);
- three pennants, one of which bears the names of the tanks of the 3rd Company of the 28th BCC, bearing witness to the numerous reorganisation of the order of battle following the heavy losses of spring 1940;
- a pair of senior tank officer’s epaulettes; body and large, rigid twisted cords in silver-coloured braid; button featuring the unit’s emblem. Manufactured by BAYARD in Lyon. In their box (slightly damaged). Length: 18.5 cm;
- two fur-trimmed sashes;
- a painted wooden commemorative plaque, bearing the motto (“Toujours devant”) and the insignia of the 28th BCC. 36 x 30 cm;
- two photographs: a B1 bis “Traminer” tank from the 49th BCC (tank commander: Lieutenant Dives) and a B1 bis “Morvan” tank from the 352nd CACC (tank commanders: Captain Menet, Staff Sergeant Robic, and Lieutenant Sarraz-Bournet). 27.5 x 38.5 cm, max.
