Sergei/Sergey Vasilievich CHEKHONIN, known as Serge TCHEKHONINE (1878–1936). Small enamelled copper plaque, decorated in grisaille with a vase of flowers on a green background, originally intended to adorn a brooch. Signed and dated ‘1915’. 26 x 35 mm. (cracks and small chips)
A Russian miniaturist, ceramist and illustrator, widely known as a graphic designer and creator of so-called Soviet propaganda porcelain, he served notably as director of the Leningrad State Porcelain Factory until his departure for France in 1928.
