Description
JAPAN. A precious JUBAKO four-compartment covered box with its stand, richly decorated in lacquer enhanced with mother-of-pearl and hardstones, notably with cherry blossoms, dragons and landscapes. Late 19th century. Height 28.5 cm. Minor accidents. Provenance: former Saint-Just Péquart collection (1881-1944), famous archaeologist, collector and patron of the Ecole de Nancy (he supported Jules Cayette and Jean Prouvé). The Jubako differs from the bento box in that it is more elegant and precious.
