Voluntary lot
Description
Gaston PERIN (1866-1952), architect for the town of Saint-Mihiel (Meuse - Lorraine). Elevation plan of the facades of the Vaucouleurs Savings Bank, rue Jeanne d'Arc. Ink and watercolour on paper, signed lower right and dated September 1909. 49.5 x 61 cm. Traces of tacks, minor foxing and repairs.
Périn, who had already designed the market (1902) and the savings bank (1906) in Saint-Mihiel, adopted an Art Nouveau style on a classical structure, intended to reassure savers. The high corner pediment features the town's coat of arms and a beehive, symbolising hard-working savers. The building still exists in Vaucouleurs; only the marquee is missing.
