Description
Folk art. Fully carved wooden cane with polychrome decoration of a long snake winding along the shaft, alternating with a military frieze (shell, cannon, officer on horseback) and animals depicting hunting (dog, fox, doe, stag, etc.). The pommel is curiously decorated with a portrait of the President of the French Republic (possibly Armand Fallières, President from 1906 to 1913), a French coat of arms with a star (symbol of Acadia?) and two imperial Chinese flags (souvenir of a veteran of the Chinese campaign in 1900?). Large steel-tipped ferule. Early 20th century. Length 91 cm.
