Description
Jean PROUVE (1901–1984) Architectural element made of grey lacquered sheet metal, originally from the façade of the secondary school in Bagnols-sur-Cèze; part of a thermally insulated curtain wall. Approx. 110 x 172 cm When Jean Prouvé took over as director of CIMT (Compagnie industrielle de Matériel de Transport, acquired by Alsthom in 1983) in 1957, he set about expanding the company’s activities into the public sector construction market. Significant resources were deployed to ensure that the architectural principles developed by Jean Prouvé in his previous ventures were scrupulously adhered to. The invention of lightweight façades made of folded metal or extruded aluminium, which could be fixed directly to the concrete, enabling the rapid construction and impeccable finish of façades for public buildings such as hospitals, schools, etc., proved a resounding success.
