Born in Roubaix in 1932, Pierre Sulmon was a French artist who graduated from the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris (a student of Marc Saint-Saëns). A talented draughtsman and painter, he turned to sculpture as his career progressed - he was awarded the Bourdelle prize in 1967 - and worked in a variety of materials including wax, polyurethane and bronze. He likes to give his work a personal and authentic character.
Passionate about art and beauty, he also trained at the École des Beaux-Arts et d'architecture in Tourcoing and the École des Beaux-Arts in Roubaix. He obtained a state diploma in interior design (Henri Matisse class). He went on to teach at the École régionale des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne, Nancy and Limoges.
He died in Toulouse in 2008.
