First edition of this work, which, drawing on the principal classical and modern sources, traces the history of the island from antiquity to the author’s own time. Intended for a cultured European readership, it contributed significantly to the dissemination of knowledge of Sicilian history outside Italy during the early years of the growing fashion for the Grand Tour. 2 volumes in one, 4to (258 × 200 mm).
