First edition of this rare and important botanical work by the Sicilian naturalist Paolo Boccone, devoted to the description and illustration of rare plants observed during his travels through Sicily, Malta, Corsica, northern Italy and Germany. Of particular significance for the study of Mediterranean and Sicilian flora, the work is extensively illustrated with engraved plates and opens with a fine engraved frontispiece depicting Saint Rosalia with Palermo in the background, followed by a portrait of the author.
4to (226 × 165 mm). Engraved frontispiece, portrait of the author and 127 numbered engraved plates, out of the 130 intended (occasional water-stains; tear to leaf n8 with no loss of text; plates 128–130 missing). Twentieth-century half-vellum binding. (1)
