Description
[MALTA]. News concerning the latest roll of the Venerable Langue of Italy for 1 May 1792. Malta: Giovanni Mallia, 1792.
A rare Maltese edition (only one copy appears to be recorded, in the Library of the Order in Rome), printed by the press of the Magisterial Palace, containing the roll of the Venerable Langue of Italy and listing the knights originating from the Italian states. Published to mark the annual renewal of offices, this volume is an important source for reconstructing the composition of the Langue of Italy on the eve of the Order’s downfall in 1798, documenting its knights, dignitaries and the administrative organisation of one of the principal bodies of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.
4to (c. 240 × 175 mm). 15 pages. Printer’s mark on the title page. Bound as published, but without covers. (1)
