Description
ANDREAE, Antonius (14th century). Questiones subtilissime super… methaphisice Aristotelis [BOUND WITH:] Scriptum aureum super metaphysicam Aristotelis. Venice: Antonio da Strada, 24 December 1481 [AND:] 21 November 1482.
A collection of two Venetian incunabula devoted to Aristotle’s Metaphysics, both extremely rare on the market, with only four copies having appeared at auction in the past 50 years (RBH). The first contains the *Quaestiones* of Antonius Andreae, a Catalan Franciscan philosopher of the early fourteenth century and follower of John Duns Scotus, whose interpretation of Aristotelian philosophy was widely circulated in late medieval Scholastic teaching. The second work presents the text and commentary on Aristotle’s Metaphysics in the new Latin translation, also edited by Andreae.
Two works in one volume, folio (295 × 210 mm). Initials rubricated in red and blue, text in two columns; a clean copy (occasional wormholes touching the text; wormtrack in the lower margin of the second work, not affecting the text). Mid-nineteenth-century binding, spine label with title and date in gilt lettering, blue edges. Provenance: several contemporary marginal annotations, an inscription on the endpapers and a probable note of the purchase price on the verso of the final leaf. (1)
