[SAINTS – SACRED CONGREGATION OF RITES]. Vota in causis S. Rituum Congregationis. [Rome, 18th century].
An interesting miscellaneous collection of manuscripts and a number of printed fascicles relating to causes of beatification and canonisation submitted to the Sacred Congregation of Rites, the papal dicastery established by Sixtus V in 1588 and entrusted, amongst its other functions, with the examination of the causes of Servants of God. The collection comprises approximately thirty sets of proceedings concerning, amongst others, Camillus de Lellis (1550–1614), Catherine de’ Ricci (1522–1590), John Baptist of the Conception (1561–1613), founder of the Discalced Trinitarians, Alexander Sauli (1534–1592), Jane Frances Frémiot de Chantal (1572–1641), Jerome Emiliani (1486–1537), founder of the Somaschi, Nicolás Factor (1520–1583), Francis de Geronimo (1642–1716), Alessandro Luzzago (1551–1602), Girolamo Baldinucci (1665–1717), Angelo da Clavasio (1411–1495), Francesco del Castillo, Peter of Betancur (1626–1667), Veronica Giuliani (1660–1727), and Aloysius Gonzaga (1568–1591).
Folio (180 × 120 mm). A collection of numerous manuscript fascicles, together with several printed documents, written in various handwriting styles and bound together in a single volume. Contemporary stiff vellum, leather spine label with gilt lettering (minor defects). (1)
